Welcome to Reconnect WA

Reconnect WA is a support network in Western Australia for people experiencing communication difficulties resulting from:
- Stroke
- Traumatic brain injury
- Other acquired brain injury such as Parkinson's disease, encephalitis or tumour
We aim to increase community awareness and services available to people with communication difficulties.
What Are Communication Difficulties?
Communication difficulties include difficulty with speaking, understanding, reading and writing.
Many people experience difficulties with their speech or ability to use language as a result of brain damage from either a stroke or head injury. People with degenerative neurological conditions also experience similar difficulties.
The two major difficulties are:
- Aphasia (or Dysphasia) – a disorder that results from damage to language centres of the brain. It can affect a person’s ability to talk, listen, read and write.
- Dysarthria – affects the muscles of the mouth, face and respiratory system. The muscles may become weak, move slowly or not move at all.
